PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD & CO-FOUNDER

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR & CO-FOUNDER

Hub Theatre Group operates under the guidance of Executive Director Dr. Bob Chanda, JD, MBA, PhD. Dr. Chanda had a vision for creating a theatre group dedicated to performing small, award-winning plays that relate, in an impactful way, stories that speak to the complexity and diversity of the human condition. This vision was behind the founding of Hub Theatre Group in 2007 and has guided it in its endeavors ever since then. Bob is an experienced actor, director, playwright, educator and speaker, and his vision is fueled by his passion for the unique power of theatre to move us, educate us and reveal truth in compelling ways.

Bob has been seen onstage over the last fifteen years in such roles as MacDuff in Macbeth, Belize in Angels in America: Perestroika , Atticus Finch in To Kill Mockingbird, Gabe in Dinner with Friends, Austin in True West, Nick in The Guys, Dan in Next to Normal, Mark Rothko in Red, and most recently as Roland in Constellations. He has also directed such plays as Doubt, 'Night Mother, the musical Next to Normal, the cutting edge play Small Mouth Sounds, Profiles in Activism: Rachel Corrie and, most recently, the amazing piece James Baldwin: The Dream Unrealized created through a collaboration between Bob and Paula Chanda and talented theatre artists from around the nation featured on Broadway on Demand.

A former attorney and MBA, Bob received his Ph.D. in Fine Arts with an emphasis on Acting/Directing and arts administration from Texas Tech University. He has in the past served as Senior Administrator of Special Projects at Texas Tech's College of Visual and Performing Arts. In addition to leading Hub Theatre Group, Bob is a One Act Play judge and presents workshops for both actors and non-actors. His determination to use his varied background to underline the cross-disciplinary aspects of theatre technique has led him to create workshops for med students, teachers, lawyers, and other non-theatre groups that utilize acting technique to sensitize participants to body language and status and their role in effective communication. He is also a playwright and has written for both adults and kids.

Hub Theatre Group, a non profit theatre organization, is an avenue for Bob and his wife Paula Chanda to make a cultural contribution to the community they choose to call home. Both Bob and Paula are excited about the success of their adult productions and the wonderful reception to their children’s productions over the years co-produced by Hub Theatre Group and Hub Performing Arts School. They are committed to SAFE theatrical performances and have taken all productions online during this challenging time for theatres. They invite you to come and support their future efforts and enjoy some great theatre!
